Northern Stone was built on a foundation of genuine craftsmanship, award-winning skill and an unwavering commitment to quality. Meet the man behind the business.
"My passion for stone tops always rose to the top. Now, 19 years later, that passion is bigger than ever and starting my own business has been a dream for many, many years."
Gavin's career in the stone trade began in 2007 when he started his stonemason apprenticeship. From his very first days on the tools, he knew he'd found his calling. The combination of precision craftsmanship, physical skill and the raw beauty of natural stone made the trade unlike anything else — and Gavin fell in love with it immediately.
His dedication and natural talent were evident from the beginning. Throughout his apprenticeship years, Gavin earned recognition that few stonemasons achieve, winning prestigious apprenticeship awards at the Master Builders' Grand Lodge in Surfers Paradise — twice. The 2012 and 2013 awards for Most Improved Student were testament not only to his raw ability but to his relentless drive to improve and master every aspect of his craft.
Over nearly two decades in the industry, Gavin has worked across every facet of the stone trade. He has extensive experience in cemetery work and monumental masonry — developing the fine detailing and precision cutting skills that distinguish truly exceptional stonemasons from merely competent ones. He has worked on residential renovations, high-end custom builds, commercial fitouts and large-scale institutional projects.
As his career progressed, his expertise and leadership saw him rise to the role of foreman, overseeing teams on complex projects and developing the management and problem-solving skills that now serve him daily as a business owner. But through every stage of his career, it was always the stone benchtops — the kitchen islands, the bathroom vanities, the perfectly fitted splashbacks — that brought him the most satisfaction.
In 2025, Gavin took the step he had been working towards for years: founding Northern Stone. The business is the culmination of everything he has built across a 19-year career — the technical mastery, the attention to detail, the understanding of what clients truly want, and the genuine passion for the craft that has never dimmed.
Northern Stone operates across the entire Townsville local government area and surrounding regions. Gavin leads every job personally, and his team shares his commitment to a "no job too big or too small" philosophy and an obsessive standard of workmanship. When you engage Northern Stone, you get a team that genuinely cares about the outcome — and a finished product you'll love for decades.
These aren't words on a wall — they're the standards we hold ourselves to on every single job, from the smallest bathroom repair to the largest commercial fitout.
We check measurements multiple times. We inspect every cut and every polish before installation. We're the kind of craftspeople who notice — and fix — things that most people would never see. Because we'd know.
Gavin doesn't just do this job — he loves it. That passion translates directly into the quality of the work. When you love what you do, you don't cut corners. You do it properly because anything less is simply not acceptable.
We give you a clear quote, we stick to it, and we tell you exactly what's involved. No hidden costs, no surprises. If something changes, we talk to you first. We respect your time and your budget.
We genuinely mean this. A single bathroom vanity top gets the same attention and care as a full commercial kitchen fitout. Every client matters. Every job is an opportunity to demonstrate what we're capable of.
